DEC 28: “I would love to but at the same time, I want to be with the Maharashtra team,” informed Maharashtra coach, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, about his name being suggested as coach for the National Cricket Academy (NCA), following the stepping down of NCA coaches Vasu Paranjpe, Hanumant Singh and Roger Binny.

“I would like to have my legs in both the boats and the sailing is sure to be safe,” added the former Indian seamer.

“I’m content with the progress made by the Maharashtra team, but we are still in the process of learning,” he observed. He was very sure that Maharashtra skipper, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, would succeed in making a comeback in the Indian squad. “Looking at the way he is playing, there is nothing that can come in his way.” “He is been very consistent both with the ball and the bat, but his batting has been in the top drawer.” Sandhu, may have left Mumbai for this season, but when someone talks about Mumbai cricket his liking still remains, and adds “Kambli is better batsmen even today. His technique and his aggression with the bat is something that nobody can match.” However, he felt that all that Kambli does off the field should be left to him alone. “Why should somebody be bothered about what he does off the field?, he queried. “I would love to have him in my team’s dressing room, he is something different.” Sandhu added.
