Samajwadi Party (SP) unit in Kerala had expressed its desire to become a partner in the congress led United Democratic Front (UDF). Addressing a press conference here, SP State President Babu Divakaran, said they would submit a request to UDF leadership to admit them in their fold.

It was for the UDF leadership to take a decision whether to admit the SP or not, Divakaran said and expressed the hope that UDF would not reject his request.

Statement of Divakaran, came in the back ground of remarks by UDF convener P P Thankachan and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala that Divakaran had ceased to be a partner in the UDF after the RSP faction led by him merged with SP.

The RSP faction led by Divakaran had been with UDF since 1999 and it merged with SP on last Sunday in New Delhi. Divakaran said the party would not put any condition for taking them in the UDF. ‘The SP unit in Kerala wants to be a partner in UDF as it believes and follows the policies of the UDF”, he added.
