Southern Sudanese leader Salva Kiir was sworn in as Sudan’s First Vice President, following the death of his predecessor John Garang in a helicopter crash week before last. ‘‘Garang is not dead for he who lives on in the hearts and minds of millions shall never die,’’ Kiir said, addressing the audience gathered at the Republican Palace in Khartoum, where he took his oath.
