CHANDIGARH, Sept 29: Officials of the UT Excise and Taxation Department today carried out an inspection at a prominent toy store in Sector 17 and found evidence of tax evasion.

During the raid, the officials found that for the past 15 days, the owner of the toy shop had not issued any sale bill. Officials also took an inventory of the goods at the shop and found that the account books were not maintained properly either.

The inspection was carried out following a complaint made by a city resident regarding tax evasion by the store. SDM-cum-deputy excise and taxation commissioner (DETC) P S Gill said that any information regarding such evasion was welcome and assured confidentiality of the source. Yesterday, R.P.S. Walia and K B S Mann, excise and taxation officers, had carried out raids at a shop dealing in mobile telephones and another shop selling grocery goods in Sector 22.

Here too, complaints regarding tax evasion had been made by residents. The DETC and also the Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner Shingara Singh accompanied the team during the inspection today.
