RAJKOT, SEPT 26: The Junagadh police have unearthed a case involving the sale of a 18-year-old girl, who was reportedly ``forcibly married'' off in Ahmedabad. This case, the police say, could be part of a racket that involves sale of girls ``kidnapped from backward areas in Maharashtra and brought to Gujarat where they are sold.''According to District Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, Nita Omkarnath Olpode, a resident of Amravati district in Maharashtra, was kidnapped and brought to Ahmedabad. She was then forcibly married to one Bhaga Babubhai Patel of Talala, Junagadh district. On Saturday, Kumar said, the girl was brought to him by a women's organisation, which said she had been ``kidnapped and forcefully married.'' The police have started interrogating Babubhai and his son Bhaga. The duo said they had ``paid Rs 21,000 for the marriage,'' which took place in Ahmedabad. They informed the police that Nita ``tried to run away after the marriage.'' They traced her to the Talala bus stop, and took her to the women's organisation which brought the matter to the notice of the police. Nita told the police that she was earlier married to a Class IV employee in Amravati gram panchayat on July 9, 2000.Some time ago, she decided to visit her father. Shobha, her friend, was also travelling in the same bus along with one Soma Santosh Taktode and another woman identified as Laxmi. As Shobha knew Nita, she asked her to accompany them to Ahmedabad. Nita was reportedly brought to Ahmedabad in an unconscious state. She said she was forcibly ``married to Bhaga.''After getting details, the Junagadh police contacted their counterparts in Amravati. They faxed photographs and other details, and confirmed that Nita had been kidnapped by Shobha and gang. Kumar said the girl's relatives and the Amravati police reached Junagadh late on Sunday and took her away. The case has now been taken over by Amravati police.
