All India Sadhu-Samaj president Mahant Gopalanand has appealed to Hindus not to celebrate New Year parties this December 31. He said the wounds of the Mumbai terror attacks are yet to heal. Besides, the country is on the verge of a war, and in such a situation, it is shameful to celebrate New Year parties, he added.“Even Christians have decided for a simple-low profile celebration this time. Even Muslims across the country didn’t celebrated Eid in a grand manner. It would be shameful for the Hindu society if they organise New Year parties at such times,” he said.According to Mahant, New Year parties are planned at many places in Saurashtra for indulging in drinks and dance, which is against Hindu culture. “Why the rest of the Hindu saints are tight- lipped over this issue? Such practices should be opposed all at level,” he said.He added that if the Christians place self moratorium on New Year celebrations, then it is the moral duty of the Hindus to distance themselves from celebrations on December 31.
