Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was removed from his post by H D Deve Gowda yesterday, today compared the Janata Dal (Secular) chief to Adolf Hitler.

He added that Deve Gowda did nothing to help him become Chief Minister of the coalition government when he had the chance to do so.

Siddaramaiah, who has attacked Deve Gowda for the first time, termed the latter’s decision to remove him and two others from the Cabinet “anti-democratic”, “dictatorial” and an “act of vengeance”.

Just three days ago, the leader had called Deve Gowda a “democrat” who could not be compared with Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray. Reminded about that statement today, Siddaramaiah shot back: “Even today he cannot be compared to Thackeray. He can be compared only to Hitler.”

The former Deputy CM denied rumours that he would join some other party, saying he was still part of the Dal (Secular). He termed JD(U) leader George Fernandes’ visit a courtesy call.

“I will go to the people. Gowda may have MLAs, but the people and party workers are with me,” he said. “We have been removed for no mistake of ours. We were not incapable or corrupt. We are not the first victims of Gowda’s selfish politics. There is a long list (of victims) like former CMs Veerendra Patil, Ramakrishna Hegde, S R Bommai, J H Patel and other leaders…” Siddaramaiah said.
