KARAD, February 8: Satara district returning officer Vandana Khullar initiated action against Saamna the mouthpiece of ruling Shiv Sena party in the State and four other newspapers for violating People’s Representation Act, 1951.

In a stern action against the “paid news”, Khullar had registered offences against Saamna, Pudhari, Belgaum Tarun Bharat, Aikya and Gramodhar newspapers.

Offences have also been registered against editor of Saamna, Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, executive editor Sanjay Raut and publisher Subhas Desai for violating section 127(a), 4(1)(2) of People’s Representation Act, 1951.

Khullar also warned that action would be taken against those found violating model code of conduct and publishing “paid news”.
