Ashwell Prince and Justin Kemp, helped by a comedy of fielding errors from their opponents, piloted South Africa to a six-wicket victory in the fourth one-day international against West Indies.

Chasing 232 to win from 50 overs, South Africa reached their target in the 47th over, when Prince swung a delivery from Corey Collymore over the top and into the mid-wicket boundary for the last of his half-dozen fours to give the visitors a 4-0 lead in the best-of-five series yesterday.

Earlier, West Indies captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul had hit a painstaking, undefeated 85 to help his side reach 231-8 from their allocation of 50 overs, and also give them an opportunity to break South Africa’s sequence of wins. Outside of these two, there was little substance or stability from the rest of the West Indies batting that again crumbled under disciplined bowling from the South Africans. Makhaya Ntini was the leading South Africa bowler with three wickets for 34 runs from eight overs, and Charl Langeveldt took two for 42 from eight overs.

Brief scores: West Indies 231-8 in 50 overs (R Sarwan 48, B Lara 22, S Chanderpaul 85 n.o, D Bravo 28, Ntini 3-34, Langeveldt 2-42) lost to South Africa: 232-4 in 46.5 overs (A Prince 89 n.o, J Kemp 65, Bradshaw 2-43)
