NEW DELHI, April 20: The 40-year-old husband of a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector died under mysterious circumstances inside a police staff quarter in the Idgah area at Sadar Bazar yesterday. While Sub-Inspector Anshu Jain, who is posted at the Communication Branch of the Delhi Police, said that her husband, Rajiv Jain, committed suicide, Rajiv's relatives claimed that he was murdered. The local police, on the other hand said, that Rajiv was mentally depressed for sometime as he was suffering from a liver problem. No suicide note has been recovered. Anshu reportedly told the local police that she was watching television with Rajiv - who worked as a Chartered Accountant with Shreeram Honda - last afternoon. The couple's children, a 10-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter, were also in the same room.Around 3.30 p.m., Rajiv told his wife that he was going to have a bath. When he did not return from the bathroom, even after an hour, Anshu knocked on the door. However, Rajiv did not respond.Anshu then broke open the bathroom door with help of her children, and found her husband hanging from the shower pipe, with a dupatta tied around his neck. Rajiv was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared brought dead. The Sadar Bazar police today said a post-mortem had already been conducted on Rajiv's body. And it has been more or less established that he had committed suicide. Also, preliminary investigations have not revealed any signs of foul play.Rajiv's relatives, however, blamed Anshu for Rajiv's death. They said that Anshu had joined the police, disregarding requests from her in-laws against doing so.Besides, she had reportedly forced her husband to move out of her in-law's house, and did not allow Rajiv to visit his parents.
