Russia to lose over 2 mn jobs in 2009

Russia has forecasted unemployment rate in the country to reach 2.1 to 2.2 million in 2009.

Russia’s Ministry of Health and Social Development has forecasted that the total number of the unemployed in the country will reach 2.1 to 2.2 million in 2009, while this year’s index was forecasted at 1.6 million,

Minister of Health and Social Development Tatiana Golikova said on Monday.

“At present, we have not exceeded the forecast for this year (1.6 million jobless), which was made when the 2008 state budget was drafted,” she said, recalling that the indicators amounts to 1.454 million unemployed at present.
