MUMBAI, May 20: There have been snooker players who have shown their prowess in billiards and vice-versa. But there are very few who show it with such regularity as Rupesh Shah. The 24-year-old from Ahmedabad won both snooker and billiards title in the Garware Club House tournament this year. He had achieved the same feat the year before last. "I could not win both titles last year because I did not play," said Shah with a cheeky smile.

Shah was a keen sports enthusiast right from the beginning. And being born in a well-to-do family helped a lot.

But it was his elder brother Erine who got him hooked onto the pool game. "I developed an interest for the game by watching my brother," revealed Rupesh. Former world champion and currently ranked world No 2 Geet Sethi has also been an idol for him. And Shah also plays at the Gujarat Sports Club in hometown Ahmedabad where Sethi plays too.

Talking about the Garware tournament where he hogged the limelight, Shah says that his win over Yasin Merchant was mostsatisfying. Talking about his game, Shah says that he has a very simple formula. "Just concentrate on your game, rest of the things don’t matter. It really works, atleast with me."

Though Shah didn’t win any tournament this year, he sure has struck good form with a bang. And with the Alpic-Om Agarwal tournament knocking on the door, the timing could not have been better.
