GANDHINAGAR, Aug 18: Support came from unexpected quarters for T N Seshan here when a veteran RSS worker Sewakram Thakkar declared his full support to a gentleman citizen8217; against a corrupt Home Minister8217; seeking re-election from here.
Thakkar, who turned up at the collectorate office on Wednesday, not only extended his verbal support to Seshan but also donated Rs 251 to his election campaign as a gesture of his goodwill. After garlanding Seshan, he said he came to support Seshan out of the feeling that it was the duty of all sincere citizens to help a gentleman like him.
In his sixties, Thakkar is bitter about the Sangh Parivar gunning for Sonia. 8220;On the one hand the RSS-VHP organisations are collecting crores from the Hindu society in the name of financing reconversion of Christians and Muslims to Hinduism, on the other hand they are turning away Sonia who wanted to adopt the Hindu culture,8221; Thakkar said.
Thakkar feels it is unfortunate that Sonia, who has married a Hindu and lived here for so long, is now being dubbed as a foreigner. He says there is nothing wrong if Sonia is projected as the next Prime Minister of India.
Criticising the State Government for its lack of initiative in altering the ethnic complexion of Kutch district, he said Kutch would turn into another Kashmir if efforts were not made to send Hindus to live in the border district.
8220;Okay, Article 370 comes in the way of sending Hindus to Kashmir, but what prevents them the Government from sending Hindus to Kutch,8221; he asks. Incidentally, Thakkar was the only Sangh Parivar worker who had defied the State Government ban on taking out a Rathyatra from Jagannath temple in Ahmedabad during the chief ministership of Amarsinh Chaudhary.
