The RSS on Thursday came out in support of North Indian migrants in Maharashtra and opposed the agitation by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray.

In a release, RSS western region chief Anil Kukde also stressed on the constitutional rights of all citizens and condemned the anti-North Indian attack that created unrest in the state. Speaking to The Indian Express from Latur, he said the need of the hour was to stress on the constitutional rights, national integration and build trust among the various communities. “The attack has affected the local residents as well. It has disrupted social harmony,” he said.

Without naming the MNS chief, he said these are stunts for short-term political gains. On the migrant population issue he said the remedy lies in removing socio-economic disparities. He added that the media should refrain from giving publicity to the assertions of political leaders that can disrupt social harmony.

RSS western region general secretary Aniruddha Deshpande said they are of the opinion that there are much more serious issues such as terrorism and insurgency that need immediate attention and political parties should refrain from diverting attention to trivial matters. “There should be no encroachment of constitutional rights,” he added.

Only recently the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission had asked the MNS leader “not to cross his limits” during his rally on May 3 and respect Indian constitution and law.
