CHENNAI, JUNE 16: Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief K S Sudharsan has “endorsed” the Vajpayee Government’s stand of non-interference vis-a-vis the turmoil in Sri Lanka and has favoured the creation of a separate autonomous province within the island nation where “Tamils can live with dignity.”

In an interview to the RSS organ Vijaya Bharatham, Sudharsan said the crisis in the neighbouring country can be solved only when Lankan Tamils have a say in their own affairs.

Advocating “justice” to Tamils, he was also vocal with regard to preserving the unity and integrity of the neighbouring nation.

Interestingly, the RSS Sarsanghachalak has hit out at the Buddhist clergy in Sri Lanka for their “nasty role” in creating a wedge between the Tamils and Sinhalese. He said they (the Buddhist clergy) brought pressure on the nation’s leadership – both Lankan President and Prime Minister – to remove Tamils, who were in large numbers, from Government service after the country’s independence. “This resulted in a revolt from Tamils.”

“As things stand today, the Sri Lankan’s – both Tamils and Sinhalese – are against the idea of partitioning the island nation on communal lines,” he said.
