Lauding Jayalalitha for the recent anti-conversion ordinance, RSS chief K.S. Sudershan today called upon the Centre to enact a similar law for the entire country.
Speaking at the annual Dussehra function at the Smruti Mandir premises here, Sudershan blamed foreign-funded conversions for friction among communities and called for curbing them by law.
‘‘Conversions are politically motivated and pose a great danger to the unity and integrity of the country.,’’ he averred. Uncharacteristically, there was less criticism and more appeal in his comments on Islam and Christianity.
He call upon Muslim scholars to emulate the reconciliatory effort of some of the Islamic countries. ‘‘Reinterpret Quran in the changed temporal contexts to come up with new definitions of concepts like Kufr and Kafir.”
The RSS chief also touched upon some basics. ‘‘Poverty and unemployment, engendered by the Western developmental model, are the root causes of conversion or religious terrorism. Where will the 10 crore unemployment youth of this country go except to these demons,’’ he said repeating his call for a change in the US-inspired consumerist economy.
Sudershan reserved a sizeable part of his speech for Tibet, whose exiled PM Samdong Rimpoche was the chief guest.‘‘It’s fine that Tibet is waging a non-violent battle against Chinese atrocities, but what is the rest of the world doing,’’ Sudershan asked.
