SURAT, April 19: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief (Sar Sanghchalak) Rajju Bhaiyya came down heavily today on the Congress party’s successive rule and described March 15, the day on which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, as a watershed in India’s history.

He was addressing a meeting of RSS volunteers at Umiya Dham in Varachha. Although the RSS chief generally shuns direct references to political parties, he spared no words in criticising the oldest national party and its leaders while openly advocating the cause of the BJP.

Apprehensions harboured by people, both in India and outside, after the BJP’s ascent were unfounded. Earlier in 1996, a similar campaign was orchestrated and parties were prevented from allying with the BJP. This time, however, the BJP ensured that it had sufficient number of allies, he said.
