CHANDIGARH, Sept 17: The Haryana Government has decided to spend about Rs 300 crore under the special component plan for the welfare of scheduled castes during the current financial year.The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Ram S. Varma here today. The government plans to constitute monitoring committees at the state, district and block levels to monitor implementation of various schemes under the component plan.Disclosing this, Meenaxi Anand Chaudhary, Social Welfare Secretary, said the government had spent Rs 6.45 crore received from the Union Government the previous year under the special central assistance scheme for the welfare of the scheduled castes. It has earmarked Rs 6.51 crore for 1998-99.The money would be spent on providing subsidy to various income generating schemes, margin money assistance for auto rickshaw (petrol), legal profession and photography scheme, redemption of agriculture land, purchase of light commercial vehicles, purchase of auto-rickshaw (diesel), scheme for financing the jeep, leather footwear manufacturing unit, organising training for scheduled castes in various trades and upgrading ITI at Ambala Cantt and Pundri.In addition, a new scheme for automobile repair, spare-part shop had been introduced to encourage the self-employment programme by the Haryana Harijan Kalyan Nigam. Under the scheme, Rs 1 lakh would be provided as loan.
