KHARAR, June 17: The District Administration has fully geared up to meet any eventuality of floods during the ensuing rainy season and a sum of Rs 2.93 crore, sanctioned by the Punjab Government, is being spent on the flood protection work in the Roopnagar District.

This was disclosed by Kulbir Singh Sidhu, Roopnagar Deputy Commissioner, while talking to Indian Express after reviewing the flood control measures in the Kharar sub-division at the Civil Rest House here last evening.

Sidhu said that all district officials have been asked not to leave their stations and remain available round the clock at their place of posting in view of the possibility of floods in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said that wireless sets will be given to the SDMs at all sensitive points which could be affected by the floods. Control rooms will also be set up at various district, sub-division and sub-tehsil level to exchange information.

Sidhu informed the relief camps will be set up at all appropriate spots where the flood-affected could be kept and adequate arrangements for medical supplies, eatables and livestock protection will be made. He said direct links with the Army and BBMB authorities will be established in case of any emergency.

The DC accompanied by SDMs of Kharar and Ropar, A. C. Sharma and A. S. Shahi respectively and XEN, Drainage and Link Roads, visited villages of Dharak, Sohali, Paprali, Badali, Dhyanpura, Dosarana and Andhrera and Sutlej belt near Chamkaur Sahib and Bela. He expressed satisfaction over the flood protection work being undertaken in the Kharar sub-division.
