NAGPUR, DEC 4: Prakash Gajbhiye, RPI leader and Nagpur University Senate member who also runs a physical education college, and sons of former BJP minister Vinod Gudadhe Patil and former Senate member Rambhau Tupkari, have been named in the second chargesheet filed by the Sitabuldi police on Friday, in connection with the bogus marksheet and degree scam that rocked the Nagpur University.The 730-page chargesheet, submitted by the Special Investigation Team of the Sitabuldi police in the court of JMFC P R Sadar on Friday, also holds suspended Registrar of Examinations Dr Prakash Mistry as the key accused in the case which involves charges ranging from fraud, forgery and use of forged documents for official use to abetment to crime. A total of 96 persons, including 76 students, eight agents, six scrutinisers and six senior varsity officials have so far been named.Besides Gajbhiye, Atul Gudadhe Patil, Shailesh Tupkari and Dr Mistry, the other accused are: suspended assistant registrars Yadavrao Kohachade and Shamrao Kalamkar, former Dean of Engineering Faculty, Dr Hemant Thakre, Prabhakar Hejib, S L Shinde, Ramesh Ambulkar, and Ashok Javlekar.The chargesheet is the outcome of the investigations by the Sitabuldi police for over five months, during which key figures of Nagpur University landed behind bars. The chargesheet was submitted to court by the Investigating Officer, PSI Anil Lokhande.It consists of 371 pages of charges and 360 pages of evidence to support the charges. The investigating officials are now facing the mammoth task of providing copies of evidence to all the accused in the case by December 24.Most of the students named in the chargesheet are from the Engineering or the Management faculties and have been benefitted from increase in marks during revaluation. The police have been successful in arresting 27 of the 96 accused in the case so far, while the rest 69 have been deemed absconding.
