Royal Challengers will put on good show in IPL: Dravid

Royal Challengers skipper Rahul Dravid said the win over Mumbai Indians would help his team do well further in IPL.

Bangalore Royal Challengers skipper Rahul Dravid on Sunday said the win over Mumbai Indians would help his team do well further in the Twenty20 extravaganza.

“This win would be very beneficial for the team (in the tournament). We had full confidence in the team, which has been proved in this game,” Dravid said at the postmatch press conference after securing a five-wicket win.

The skipper also said that the partnership between Jaques Kallis and Mark Boucher in Sunday’s victory reminded him of the Proteas victory against India, achieved in 2000 while playing at the same venue.

“I told Boucher that it was your partnership with Kallis that took away the match from us that time as well,” he said.

Dravid also said that the five-day rest till theie next match would “greatly” benefit the team.

“We were a bit rushed this week and virtually had games back to back. This gives us time to go back home and prepare for the next match,” he said.

The former India captain also said that youngsters would have to play bigger role as the tournament progresses.

“As the tournament goes on, I expect that less experienced players will have a grater role to play. Most of them have not played in such an atmosphere before and once they get used to it, they will do better,” he said.

The losing skipper Harbhajan Singh was undeterred by the defeat.

“It was a good effort by the team and we do not expect that one loss would not make too much of a difference ion teh tournament. It is a long tournament and I am sure that if we play well, we will do well.

The stand-in-captain also praised young paceman Dhawal Kulkarni for his good show in the match.

“Dhawal is young and has good potential and I expect him to play for Indian team one day.

Mumbai Indians coach Rajput said fate of injured captain Sachin Tendulkar would be known in two-three days.
