The renowned comedian Johnny Lever, performing at the Balgandharva Rang Mandir, on April 16, rued the fact that Indians, especially the girls go ga-ga over American pop singers, citing the example of Michael Jackson’s much-hyped show in Mumbai last year. The 50,000-strong audience did not understand a word of what he sang but the girls shrieked and fainted all the same. So Johnny Lever said it was high time an Indian singer-of-the-soil went abroad and made the American girls swoon. Just suppose (he says) … Pandurang from Maharashtra goes to the US of A and sings a powada, in the typical ji,ji re ji ji style and the girls go crazy, screaming `aaaeei, Paandu, we lo…ooove you.’ Now, that will be the day.
Indian singers, dream on!
Freeze!!!
Parties, parties, parties. A dime a dozen. Well, not really. The number of bucks party enthusiasts are pumping into this business is by no means paltry. More and more people are now willing to chill out even though they burn a hole in their deep pockets. Oh! what a way to celebrate the summer.
Pub crawlers beat the heat to a pulp on Saturday evening, April 18, at Ten Downing Street with the help of some real cool cocktails. "Smirnoff is launching this exciting range of cocktails which are vended out of a freezing machine available only at TDS," says Vishaal Raheja of Genesis.
Frozen Delight, the new range of cocktails, it turns out is a menu driven machine and can turn out new tastes when desired. Things were happening at The Bullocks simultaneously. Their Bhangra Pop night turned out to be a complete entertainer as the crowds boogied down in abandon all night long. Carry on making headlines guys.
Going all Hair-wire!
Sure, the summer heat in Pune this year is horrifying enough to make one’s hair stand on end. But hair has this habit of growing and needs to be clipped regularly into a suitable frame for the face. For hair-conscious men and women, here’s a little tip on the latest cuts. If you find the Botched Bobs a bit hair-raising, remember they are very comfortable and convenient styles. And that is what matters, right!
The art of teaching
An art exhibition that teaches you how to paint ? That’s exactly the aim of Zep Riazachi, the art exhibition-cum-workshop conducted by noted city artist Diwakar Dengle at the Gurukrupa Kala Dalan on Paud Road. The five-day exhibition which concludes on April 20 and concentrates on the importance of composition in paintings. The demonstrations are held in the morning (9am-11am) and the exhibition is on display in the evenings between 5pm and 8pm. “I want to create an appreciative audience for art work,” says Dengle about the workshop. For Dengle this is the fourth in the Riaz series. The first three concentrated on the kind of paper to use in painting, the use of water and brushstrokes. So if you wanted to paint but didn’t know who to ask — this is your chance.
