ROHTAK, May 29: While the striking nurses have reiterated their resolve to continue their indefinite strike, the authorities of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences have initiated action against them under the provisions of Haryana Civil Services punishment and appeal rules, 1987 after the expiry of the deadline to resume duty expired today.

The director, D.S. Dubey when contacted said that the “process has been set in motion”.

The nurses defied Essential Services Maintenance Act and did not join duty. Health services maybe paralysed in Haryana as nurses from all the districts are planning to join the fray, said Jasbir Kaur, president of Nurses Staff Association, Haryana.

She said the govt was planning to crush the peaceful stir of nurses by invoking ESMA to weaken the movement. But striking nurses would fight these black laws unitedly and with courage.

She refuted the allegation of Health Minister that nurses had gone on strike without proper notice. She said they wore black badges, organised district-level dharnas from May 15 to 20. It was only then that they went on strike on May 21. However, 97 student nurses of second-year and third-year nursing course who were expelled from the school on May 27 for absenting themselves from classes and ward duties vacated the hostel said Dubey.

Meanwhile, Ishwanti Malik and Santosh Hooda, general secretary and treasurer of nursing association said that they were sorry that the poor patients were suffering while the authorities were not in a mood to hear the genuine demands.
