Robbers allegedly made off with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from a house in the Jaffarabad area of Northeast Delhi on Monday.The police said the incident occurred around 4 pm, when Shashi Jain was alone at home. “Shashi was alone at home as her husband, Arvind Kumar Jain, was at his shop in the nearby Seelampur area. The couple’s two children hadn’t come back from school due to a function,” a senior police officer said.The police said Rs 2 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh were allegedly taken. “Shashi told investigators that five masked men had come to her house and threatened her of dire consequences at knifepoint. They then escaped with the cash and ornaments,” the senior officer said.Arvind Kumar owns a speaker parts shop and his niece is to be married in November, because of which the money and ornaments were kept in the house.Investigators said they suspect local criminals, as the assailants had prior information about the cash and jewellery. An FIR was lodged at the Welcome police station in connection with the incident but no arrests have yet been made.DCP, Northeast district, Surender Yadav said: “We have got some clues and are further investigating the matter.”
