Uttaranchal Chief Minister N.D. Tiwari has invited trouble from within the party, axing three ministers of state Congress chief Harish Rawat’s camp in the Cabinet downsize exercise.

Supporters called a bandh against the removal of Rural Development Minister Surinder Singh Negi in Kotdwar, his home town. Irrigation Minister Shoorveer Sajwan and Minister of State for

Industrial Development Kishore Upadhaya. , both bitter rivals, today joined hands to demand the removal of the CM.

Party sources said Harish Rawat had a tough time retaining his brother-in-law, Mahinder Singh Mahra as Agriculture Minister. Further, he had made the ouster of Social Welfare Minister Ram Parsad Tamta a prestige issue, blaming him for the defeat of his wife Renuka Rawat in the Lok Sabha elections.

In the bargain, Tiwari dropped Upadhaya, a close associate of Harish Rawat who was becoming a headache. Vijay Bahuguna, a senior party leader who lost the Lok Sabha polls from Tehri parliamentary seat, had his revenge by ensuring the removal of Shoorveer Sajwan and Kishore Upadhaya. Both these ministers, belonging to Tehri, had opposed Vijay Bahuguna as party candidate. Tiwari kept out Mantri Prasad Naithani, Bahuguna’s only supporter.
