Chennai, Jan 11: The toll of having knocked out two top seeds evidently told on Bikram Uberoi. Top seed Ritwik Bhattacharya put Uberoi in his place while making it to the men’s final of the India Cements National Squash championship at Madras Race Club on Tuesday. Ritwik emerged a 5-9, 9-2, 9-5, 9-0 winner.

In Wednesday’s final, Ritwik meets Manish Chotrani, who scalped second seed Navneet Narain 9-0, 5-9, 9-2, 9-3.

The women’s final will pit holder Mekhala Subedar against Deepali Anvekar. Mekhala was not really tested by Vaidehi Reddy and the scoreline of 9-5, 9-1, 9-0 reflected the chasm. Deepali too had it easy againt Pia Abraham, putting a lot of shoulders in the 9-3, 9-2, 9-2 shut out.

Much was expected of the clash between Uberoi and Ritwik. Uberoi, having played the Under-19 semifinal in the afternoon, could not quite keep his stamina to the desired level. All the promise of a close contest evaporated when Uberoi failed to sustain the momentum of the first game.

The end came as an anti-climaxas Uberoi did not had anything left to throw at his opponent. Having smelled the win, Ritwik kept going and came out head held high.

Results (Boys under-19 semis): Bikram Uberoi (Mah) bt Neerav Tomar (Delhi) 9-3 9-2 9-1; Mihir Kapoor (Mah) bt Junaid Nathani (Mah) 9-1 2-9 9-1 9-3.
