All the politics over the Left aside, the Congress-led UPA Government has managed to keep its flourishing business-like relationship with Israel going. The secret: keep matters low key, cut out high-profile visits, transact business away from the media glare. However, there is growing interest of late among state politicians to journey to Israel. And growing in confidence, the Government too has begun to host some Israeli ministers and top officials. After dealing with a couple of ministers who hold less controversial portfolios, New Delhi will host Israel’s Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit, who is likely to be the PM candidate of the Kadima Party founded by former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Sheetrit will be here in the first week of November. This comes within a couple of weeks of the visit of Israeli National Security Council head Ilan Misrahi.
