NEW DELHI, April 6: India added six more gold and four silver medals to their total even as Arsen D of Khazakastan created an Asian record in the 125kg deadlift category for junior men on the concluding day of the Asian Powerlifting Championship that concluded here. Arsen later went on to win the gold with a total lift of 830kg while his record-breaking effort was 325kg in the deadlift.

Gold for India came through V. Xavier (125kg), Sushil Kumar (above 125kg) in the senior section while Umesh Kumar Rana (90kg), Gurmeet SIngh (100kg), Kulwant Kumar (110kg) and JS Cheema (above 125kg) were the gold medallists in the junior section.

The silver medals were won by Rachpal Singh (110kg), A. Kapoor (India), (125kg) in the senior men category while in the 82.5kg junior category Raj Dar Misra won the silver.

The overall domination helped Chinese Taipei women bag the team championships in both senior and junior sections with 72 and 69 points, respectively. Hosts India finished second in both catgories with 57 and 63 points, respectively. Lee Chia Sui of Chinese Taipei was declared the junior strong woman of Asia while in the senior secion it was her compatriot Chao Chen Yen. Sivokon Alexie of Kazakhastan was declared strong man of Asia in the senior section while Hsies Tsung Ting of Chinese Taipei was on top in the junior section. India won the team championship in the junior section while they finished second behind Kazakhastan in the senior section.
