BANGALORE, Jan 9: Chairman of the Rajiv Gandhi Dental College (RGDC) Sadashivan Bijore and his son S Sunil Bijore were arrested on Thursday, in connection with the death of student Arya Somarajan. The arrest followed her father filing a police complaint, alleging that Arya was raped and murdered.
Sadashivan and others had obtained anticipatory bail last week, when they were expected to be arrested under the charge of abetting Arya’s suicide. The father, G Somarajan, who had come to collect the body at Victoria hospital after post-mortem on Thursday, said Arya might have been raped and later her body set on fire.
He told reporters that his daughter was a victim of a sinister ploy hatched by the RGDC management. Somarajan alleged that the management had taken away the life of his daughter to create space for another student to continue the course.
The University had allowed only seven out of the 36 students to appear for the exams that year, he added. Somarajan, who hails from Pathiyur village in Kerala, said the management wielded tremendous clout, but he would not rest until the law nailed them.
The father blamed the management and the police for not informing him of his daughter’s death immediately. Somarajan, who came to the city on Wednesday, requested the police to shift the body from Ramaiah hospital to Victoria hospital.
The autopsy report is awaited. The college officials, however, were not available for comment.
