NEW DELHI, July 16: For the Delhi racing buffs, the year 1999-2000 at the Delhi Race Club promises to be as rewarding and interesting as in the previous years. The coming racing season is all set to unfold from August 2 and is expected to go on until April 28 next, according to a Delhi Race Club prospectus released here last week.

The 55-day season will see a stake money of over Rs. 2.34 crore and trophies worth Rs. 4.18 lakh being disbursed and during which period nearly 375 horses in the age bracket of three to six and roughly 100 horses of two-year old will be seen taking part in the racing.

As during the last year, five races carrying stakes of not less than one million for three-year old have also been slated. To ensure higher stakes, certain existing handicap races for two and three-year old horses have been modified into sweepstake events. The conversion will not only enable higher stakes but will also make it more interesting.
