Snubbed by the National Commission for Women (NCW) for not arresting a criminal who forcibly entered into wedlock with a married woman, the Bihar police today announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for any information about him.

Bihar DGP R.R. Prasad said Rs 25,000 would be given to anyone providing information about Sultan Mian. He is wanted for murder, loot and dacoity and married Kanchan Mishra by force last month.

The state police had come under flak from the NCW with chairperson Purnima Advani on Tuesday who threatened to initiate action against officers within 10 days.

Advani headed a four-member NCW delegation to Patna on December 16-17. Kanchan Mishra’s mother, Sachita Devi, had alleged that Sultan Mian forcibly married her daughter after abducting her from the Mainpura locality of Patna on November 6.

Mishra was married twice before and has not divorced her previous husbands. She has a 10-month-old baby.
