The revamped America Online strategy that executives will present to parent AOL Time Warner Inc.’s board and then investors calls for less emphasis on advertising and more on programmes and e-commerce services, including games and auctions, industry sources said. Jon Miller, the head of America Online, has been focusing on defining a strategy to get the unit back on track after suffering from an advertising and subscriber slowdown and probes into its accounting.Industry sources said the new AOL includes games and e-commerce services built through close ties with the help of the company’s other businesses including Warner Music, Sports Illustrated and CNN. America Online is also considering dual pricing for its dial-up Internet service. The new strategy will be one of the main topics discussed at AOL Time Warner’s board meeting on Thursday and will be unveiled at a long-anticipated December 3 meeting. After focusing on advertising in recent years, a new team under Miller has identified programming, broadband and new services as key to maintaining its 35 million subscriber base.
