THANE, Aug 1: A notice issued by the Mumbai civic body seeking certain information for the purpose of assessment has been bitterly opposed by Mulund residents.

In a letter to the BMC, Mulund Sarvodaya Nagar Citizens’ Welfare Association president VK Sankar Narayan has said that the information sought by the corporation as regards to the flats had already been provided when their assessment was done.

“Now at the belated stage, to call for the same information from the members by the BMC is illegal, unfair and against the principles of natural justice” he said.

He also said that in a cooperative society the BMC had put the burden of collecting dues from its members and remitting to BMC. At the same time no cooperation was extended to the societies by BMC to help collect the dues from defaulting members.

In some the dues were in lakhs and the municipal dues were paid from the general collection of other members.

Thus “the society is compelled to divert the amount meant for other works towardspayment of BMC dues,” Narayan said.
