SURAT, July 29: Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan’s remark that the controversy between elected and administrative wing is “newspapers’ creation”, has invited the wrath of journalists.

Taking offence at the commissioner’s remark, reporters called on senior BJP leaders Nalin Bhatt and Thakor Desai and complained against Jagadeesan who, they said, “did not know how to behave with reporters.”

BJP city president Arvind Godiwala said the senior leaders had also received complaints from councillors, who claimed that there was a lack of coordination been the commissioner and elected wing, leading to unsavoury controversies.

In a bid to play down the issue, the commissioner said there had been no controversies. “If there were any controversies, they were only in newspapers. Certain newspapers have vested interest in creating controversies,” Jagadeesan asserted.

Three weeks ago, the commissioner had stopped meeting reporters in group saying that certain reporters were publishing `malicious reports’.

“Those who cannot apply rational mind are not welcomed in my chamber,” the commissioner had told reporters after which customary daily briefing had been stopped.

After hearing complaints against the commissioner, Bhatt and Desai assured reporters that they would convey it to the chief minister.
