CHANDIGARH, July 21: Alleged co-conspirators in Burail jail break attempt, Satnam Singh, Baljit Singh and Jaswant Singh were further remanded to judicial custody till August 4 by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) A.K. Bishnoi, here today.Booked under the Explosive Substances Act along with Section 419, 425-B, 420, 468 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, the accused had allegedly conspired to smuggle the explosive and a cellular phone into the jail.According to the prosecution, the explosive was to be employed for blowing up a portion of the jail for releasing a "hardcore militant", Jagtar Singh Hawara, and other alleged assassins of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh.Baljit Singh, a contact between Hawara and other accomplices, had allegedly handed over about Rs 1.45 lakh to Satman Singh for purchasing explosive from a contact in Ropar, the prosecution had stated. The wireless sets, recovered after Satnam Singh's disclosure, were also to be smuggled into the jail through him, it had been added.Jaswant Singh, meanwhile, was a contact between the other accused and Hawara. He had smuggled a cellular phone twice into the jail after receiving the same from a contact in Chandigarh, the prosecution had stated. Top
