Putting to rest speculations about sustainability of its ‘affordable’ tariff, Reliance said on Tuesday that there would be no change in its tariff plan and customers would get the STD facilities within its network at 40 paise per minute as part of the Dhirubhai Pioneer Offer.

The Reliance Infocomm spokesperson said this within hours of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) comments that Reliance was yet to submit its revised tariff package under the new dispensation incorporating the interconnect usage charges (IUC) regime, to be effective from May 1. In the wake of news reports questioning the sustainability of Reliance’s tariff package under the new dispensation of interconnect usage charge from May 1, TRAI chief Pradeep Baijal had earlier said that no discrimination by any player would be allowed.

‘‘This implies that the service provider should not charge different tariffs for calls originating and terminating in its own network or calls originating in its own network and terminating in other networks offering the same type of service,’’ Baijal added further.

The spokesperson said, ‘‘There will be no change in tariff plans and customers can continue to make STD calls at 40 paise per minute.
