A Harinagar residents kidnapped his minor brother-in-law and demanded ransom from his father-in-law for the safe release of the boy. However, the police rescued the boy from Varachha on Sunday and arrested three people in this connection.

The police said that on Friday, 12-year-old Rujal Mistry, a resident of Thakore Deep Society in Udhna Magdalla Road, was on his way to the nearby ice-cream shop with his brother in-law Kailash Kumawat, a resident of Harinagar in Udhna, when two persons, identified as Dinesh Bhargav and Mukesh Parekh, intercepted them. They took them to a room at Ghanshyam Nagar in Varachha on gunpoint .

Dinesh then called Rujal’s father Omprakash Mistry, a building contractor by profession, and informed him about the abduction of the two. He demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh for their safe release.

Omprakash checked at his house and learnt that Kailash and Rujal had left the home and did not return. He later contacted the police and lodged a complaint of kidnapping.

The police started investigating the phone number on Omprakash’s mobile phone and found that the call was made from Udhna. When the kidnapper called Omprakash on his cellphone for the second time and told him to deliver the money at Udhna Darwaja junction to a man on Sunday afternoon, the police located the number to an STD booth in Varachha.

The police maintained a watch at Udhna Darwaja junction in civil clothes along with Omprakash, who was carrying the cash in his hands. When Mukesh appeared before him for the cash, the police caught him. During interrogation, Mukesh disclosed that Kailash was also involved in the crime.

The police asked Mukesh to make a call to Dinesh and inform him that the money has been received. Later, the police conducted raids at Ghanshyamnagar in Varachha with Mukesh and rescued Rujal. They arrested Dinesh and Kailash.

Umra Inspector R S Patel said, “Kailash had taken loans from his family and was unable to pay it back. He had married Sapna, Rujal’s elder sister, two years ago.”
