Ahmednagar, April 17: The area of Rehkuzi sanctuary here, famous for deer and rare species of animals, would be extended to 600 hectares of land from the existing 217 hectares, forest officer R J Jadhav said today.

The revenue department has given its consent for the transfer of land to the forest department, Jadhav told PTI at Karjat, 58 kms from here.

The present area was not sufficient for the healthy growth of animals and birds in the sanctuary, he said.

Earlier, the forest department had filed writ petition for getting the additional land. The court issued orders to make provison for the transfer of the land and has expressed dissatisfaction over keeping the issue pending.
