MUMBAI, NOV 20: Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) will set up regional shipping terminals at Bandra in north-west Mumbai for which the Maharashtra government has already allotted 50 acres of land to the board. The objectives of building the terminals are – to launch sea transport services for passengers at various nodal points of the city, provide shipping links and roll-on roll-off services to neighbouring states of Gujarat and Karnataka and provide passenger services to the state’s coastal districts.

Vice-chairman and chief executive officer of MMB, V S Dhumal, addressing Members of Indian Merchants’s Chamber at a seminar on coastal shipping, said the master plan of the project was ready and feasibility study had been commissioned. Within six months of completion of the study, tenders would be invited for construction of jetties and other supporting infrastructure. "We aim to have a draft of about four metres at the terminals," he said.

Maharashtra government has been holding talks with Gujarat maritimeboard for setting up terminals, he added.
