Chandigarh: Former minister Faqir Chand Sharma died at Amritsar this morning after prolonged illness, family sources said. Sharma was a state minister in the Rajinder Kaur Bhattal ministry. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh and Leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha Jagjit Choudhry have expressed grief over Sharma’s death.

Eye camp
Patiala: The Murari Sham Lal Foundation Trust here is organising a free eye camp at the premises of Malwa Cinema on November 26. On this occasion, a team of eye specialists, headed by R S Gill and H K Sidhu, will check the patients and perform operations later. The Foundation Trust will provide medicines and spectacles to the eye patients free of cost.

Foundation Day
Patiala: The Sai Model High School on Monday celebrated its 20th annual foundation day, coinciding with the 73rd birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The school is established on the teachings of the holy seer. Well-known theatre personality Pran Sabharwal was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. He also lauded the brilliant results of the institution.

Meet
Moga: The NRI district sabha held a meeting here in the Deputy Commissioner complex on Monday. It was presided over by K.S. Sidhu, the sabha’s president and it strongly condemned the killing of Tara Singh Hayer, editor of Canadian Times, by some unidentified persons in Vancouver. The sabha adopted a resolution expressing heartfelt condolences with the bereaved family.

Education
Amritsar: National research scientist and former University Grants Commission chairman Yash Pal today exhorted the students to strive for self-fulfilment and stressed the importance informal stream of education. The former University Grants Commission said this while speaking at the `Sneharpan’ function of BBK DAV Women College. The renowned scientist also inaugurated the auditorium of the college.

Blood camp
Kharar: The Kharar Rotary Club in association with the local branch of the State Bank of Patiala is organising its fifth blood donation camp at the library hall of Arya College for Women here on November 30, according to Harpreet Rekhi, spokesman of the Club.

Vaccination
Kharar: The second subsidised Hepatitis-B vaccination camp is being organised by the Kharar Rotary Club in collaboration with the District Health Department at Khalsa Senior Secondary School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on November 29.

Training centre
Kharar: A multilingual computer training centre has been established in Kharar, where different courses are available. According to Naveen Gupta, in charge of the centre, trainees will be awarded certificates issued by the scientific society of the Union Department of Electronics after completion of course.
