CheckKapurthala: Punjab Local Bodies Minister Balram Dass Tandon, today, in a surprise check of the local municipal council office found five employees absent from duty. He asked the executive officer to issue show cause notices to the absenting employees and take stern action against them. The employees who were found absent include Joga Singh, clerk, Yash Raj Kalia, sanitary inspector, Promjit Singh and Mahesh Kumar, both bill distributors and Mohini Devi, peon.CrimeKapurthala: The detective staff of Kapurthala police, today, arrested Sarabjit Singh alias Sabi, a resident of village Tahli under police station Kartarpur on the charge of making fake Scheduled Castes and backward classes certificates and driving licenses. Mittal said he had instructed officials to check normal supply of essential items and LPG supply. He claimed that there was no scarcity of any essential commodities in the state. He denied reports that Union government could not control price rise of essential goods, saying "it was the responsibility of all state governments to work under Essential Commodities Act to ensure normal and smooth supply of essential goods''. According to SP (Hq) and incharge of Economic Offences Wing Varinder Kumar, the accused had approached Amardeep Leasing and Finance Company for getting financed a Mahindra-550 vehicle. After a loan of Rs 2.29 lakh was sanctioned to him, he got the vehicle from Modern Motors. The finance company rejected the loan proposal of the accused for failing to complete the formalities but he retained the vehicle without making the payment to the dealer.
