Badal opposes urea hike
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today criticised the hike in urea prices which has been announced by the Union government. Asking the Centre to reconsider the hike in price, he urged them to withdraw it immediately. Badal said that this decision would adversely affect the farm sector in Punjab.

Cancelled
Chandigarh: The inauguration of permanent Lok Adalat at Moga by Justice H. S. Brar, Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, scheduled for January 30 stood cancelled due to unavoidable reasons. This was notified by S.S. Arora, Member Secretary, Punjab Legal Services Authority here today.

Kharar sdm
Kharar: S.A.S. Nagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) O.P. Popli has been given additional charge of Kharar. The post was lying vacant since January 1, after the transfer of Avtar Chand Sharma as the District Transport Officer, Patiala. On January 3, the then SDM of S.A.S. Nagar, Mohinder Paul Arora, was given additional charge of Kharar but the post again fell vacant when Arora was transferred.

Production resumes
Parwanoo: Production at Sachs India, which had come to a halt due to the workers’ strike since November 7, resumed today following an agreement signed yesterday between the representatives of workers and the management in the presence of J.S. Negi, Labour Officer of district Solan. The workers had struck work on November 7, when the management suspended two workers who had allegedly assaulted the managing director of the company.

Ex-servicemen meet
Patiala: A largely attended meeting of ex-servicemen and widows was held at local Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Tripuri road, Patiala, under the aegis of the Indian Ex-service League, Punjab and Chandigarh, district Patiala. Prabhjot Singh, general secretary of the state body and president of district branch, presided over the meeting. Members demanded that the pension of pre-1986 defence pensioners be raised and made equal to pre-January 1, 1996 pensioners.

Eye check-up camp
Patiala: The Lala Niranjan Lal Mahajan Memorial Charitable Trust, Patiala, organised a free eye check-up and operation camp at Jalah Kheri village, near Devigarh, Patiala, to commemorate the 5th death anniversary of Lala Niranja Lal Mahajan. Sukhdip Singh Boparai and his team from Patiala Eye hospital examined 213 patients and performed 30 operations free of cost.
