MOGA: Education Minister Tota Singh has expressed concern over the increasing trend of conducting pre-natal tests to get rid of the girl child.Presiding over the annual prize distribution function of a government school here yesterday, the minister sought the people8217;s cooperation in putting an end to this heinous crime. He stressed the need for educating girls and said the state government was taking various steps in this direction. The minister also expressed concern over the increasing trend of drug addiction among students and called upon parents-teachers bodies to fight this social evil.He announced a grant of Rs 3 lakh for the construction of new rooms in the school.

Kharar: The employees of the Kharar Municipal Council started their indefinite dharna in front of the Municipal Council here today to protest the non-payment of their monthly salaries. The MC wore a deserted look because of the strike.

MOGA: Five employee unions of Punjab PWD B and R have constituted a 10-member Sangharsh Committee headed by Baljit Singh, general secretary of the Technical Employees Union and Jaspal Singh Naroo as its convener. The Sangharsh Committee later met on Sunday and decided to intensify their stir to press the state government to accept their genuine demands.Naroo, told media persons here on Monday that the Sangharsh Committee has decided to hold an employees state-level convention at the Desh Bhagat Hall, Jalandhar, on June 6.

PATIALA: All PCMS Association doctors of Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital here wore black badges on Sunday in protest against the delay in implementation of Fourth Punjab Pay Commission recommendations. Earlier, a general body meeting of local PCMS unit held a demonstration in support of their demands. The meeting was addressed by Dr B.S. Sohal, Dr Dharamvir Gandhi, Dr Harcharan Singh, Dr B.S. Walia, Dr Parmod and others.

PATIALA: Former MLA and president of the Minorities and Dalit Morcha Satwant Singh Mohi has urged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to give 25 per cent representation in Rajya Sabha seats to the Scheduled Castes. He said that five of the total Rajya Sabha seats from the state have already been given to non-dalits and the remaining two should go to the dalits as was the practice during the Congress rule. Mohi asked Badal to shed the image of the SAD being dubbed as anti-dalit by allotting the remaining two seats to the dalits.

RAJPURA: The Rajpura police have solved a theft case after arresting one person and recovered stolen items including 800 from his possession. Giving this information here on Sunday, DSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar said that the incident took place on May 5 when a car driver Avtar Sigh decamped with a money bag left inside his Tata Sumo by Sukhjinder Singh Dhaliwal and his family members. Dhaliwal was here from California for a marriage function.

RAJPURA: The Rajpura police have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle lifters with the arrest of two gangmen. According to police sources, on a tip-off a police party headed by ASI Shelinder Singh laid a naka in old Rajpura area and during the search operations nabbed Paramjit alias Raju and Hazara Ram. A white Maruti and two scooters of different makes were recovered from the possession of the two accused. A case under Sections 379, 411 of CrPC has been registered and recovery of many more vehicles is expected.
