CHANDIGARH, June 17: A manufacturing company has been directed by UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum to refund the price of a defective cooking pan along with interest at the rate of 12 per cent per annum.

Anshula Gupta, a resident of Sector 19 in a complaint against Maharaja Appliances alleged that she had purchased one electronic cooking pan which developed a defect soon after. The complainant sought refund of the price of the cooking pan, Rs 1,900 along with Rs 2,000 as compensation on account of harassment.

In an exparte evidence, the forum comprising president R. P. Bajaj and members H. S. Walia and Kamlesh Gupta observed that the electronic cooking pan purchased by the complainant at a cost of Rs 1,900 was found to be defective and did not work. The price paid by the complainant had been a waste, the forum maintained.

The forum allowed the complaint with costs of Rs 550 and directed the manufacturing company to return Rs 1,900 alongwith interest at the rate of 12 per cent from the date of purchase till payment.
