PANCHKULA, JULY 19: Out of the total installed capacity of 25,518 MW power generating units in the northern region, 2,053 MW went out of order recently, leading to reduced power availability to the Northern Grid.According to an official spokesperson of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPN), 210 MW unit at Unchahar, 200 MW unit at Singrauli and 210 MW unit at Badarpur Thermal Power Station (BTPS) tripped on July 13. He added that 200 MW at Anpara, 200 MW at Obra, 120 MW at Bhakra, 150 MW at Rajasthan at Automatic Power Plant (RAPP), two units of 200 MW each at Singrauli, 110 MW at Panipat Thermal Power Plant (PTPP) were already out of order. Moreover, power generating units at Rihand were also producing 50 per cent below rated capacity. The spokesman added that all this led to unfavourable operational parameters in the Northern Grid at around 8 p.m on July 13.In order to compensate this disturbance, load shedding had to be resorted to by all the states in the Northern Grid. The spokesman has assured that the situation is likely to improve when the power generating units start producing power and the grid frequency is improved.
