Army units stationed along the borders will head back home by December, Deputy Army Chief Lt Gen J.B.S. Yadava said today.
But further redeployment could take some time because India would closely monitor Pakistani reactions before taking a decision, he said.
The three strike corps that were deployed will pull back, along with the bulk of the armoured formations.
Yadava was speaking to reporters on Thursday, on the eve of the Indian peace keeping contingent’s departure for Lebanon.
The 8th Sikh, a battalion that won many honours during the Kargil war and was also deployed during Operation Parakram, was in Delhi for a six-month training before leaving for Lebanon.
Incidentally they will be replacing 1/11 Gorkha Rifles which also won accolades during the Kargil war.
