One person was shot dead at the residence of K Venkateshwar Rao, son of state Congress chief K Keshav Rao, in Prashasan Nagar, near Jubilee Hills, police said on Sunday.

Police said initial investigation found that a “dispute” was on between APCC president’s son and victim Prashant Reddy, a realtor, over a piece of land for the past few months. According to the police, some months ago, there was a fight between these two groups, which led to a scuffle and booking of cases against each other.

On Sunday afternoon, there was a heated argument between Reddy and Rao over ownership of the land and refund of money. There are reports that Rao and Prashant had consumed liquor before the shoot out

At about 4 pm, Rao, who was carrying a revolver with him, took out his weapon and shot Reddy on the right temple. At the time of shootout, only Rao, his wife and Reddy were present, the police said. Reddy was rushed to Apollo Hospital, but the doctors there declared him dead.

Meanwhile, Keshav Rao, who was accompanying Chief Minister Y S R Reddy on a tour, on reaching Hyderabad, rushed to Apollo Hospital and spoke to the victim’s parents. Reddy was the cousin of former Indian volleyball captain Ravikanth Reddy.
