New Delhi: THE inflation rate slipped to 6.17 per cent in week ended April five from the 2-year high of 6.24 per cent a week ago, despite rise in prices of fruits and vegetables, edible oil, cement and transport equipment. Economists say the inflation might come down in the coming weeks if fuel prices fall in tandem with global oil prices. But they warned that the truckers’ strike, which was blocking the supply of essential items, would lead to higher inflation. ‘‘Inflation rate for week ended April 20 would definitely reflect the rise in prices of food and other essential items due to the truckers strike,’’ ICRA’s Chief economist Saumitra Chaudhuri said. The final inflation rate stood at 5.35 per cent compared to the provisional figure of 5.04 per cent. PTI |
