In wake of the recent violence against north Indians during Railway Recruitment exam in Mumbai, the Rail Ministry has decided to conduct the re-examination of affected candidates outside Maharashtra.

Examinations at least two centres in Mumbai were reported to have been disrupted by MNS activists.

“We will not conduct this exam there,” Railways Minister Lalu Prasad told reporters today after attending a stormy session of the Lok Sabha which was adjourned a number of times over the issue.

Defending the decision, Prasad argued, “The exam is not conducted division wise after all. This is a merit test for all. Students will go at all places. That’s why when they (MNS) have created this situation, the students from Maharashtra will also take the exam in the nearby state, where the situation is peaceful.” Prasad also said that he has taken up the issue of attacks on students from Bihar with Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

“There should be strict action on MNS. They should not be allowed to continue with hooliganism. There should be a ban,” Prasad said.
