MUMBAI, MAY 8: The Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers Limited (RCF) synthesis plant, modernised at a cost of Rs 98 crore, was inaugurated by Union fertiliser minister Suresh Prabhu at Trombay. The Ammonia-I synethesis plant has a capacity of 350 metric tonnes per day.

He also complimented the company on the sewage treated plant to recover waster water. The sewage plant, set up at a cost of Rs 40 crore, will enable RCF to save Rs 33 per cubic metre of water towards its total requirement of 6.5 million gallons per day for maintaining plants.

On disinvestment of government holding in RCF, he said the proposal was pending before the Union cabinet and was yet to be finalised. RCF is targetting a turnover of Rs 5,000 crore in the next three years from the present Rs 2,500 crore. Its production capacity is expected to increase 45 lakh tonnes comprising 30 lakh tonnes of urea, 10 lakh tonnes of phosphatic fertilisers, 3 lakh tonnes of DAP and 2 lakh tonnes of bio fertilisers.

According to RCF chairman Varma, the company is planning to invest 50 per cent of its Rs 1,300 crore internal accurals in setting up Thal plant in Raigad and raise the balance from ICICI, SBI,IDBI and other banks. He said the expansion at the Thal plant would be carried out with the addition of 2 lakh tonnes for production of phosphatic fertiliser with an investment of Rs 600 crore.
